As a Naturopathic Practitioner, I believe that the body possesses an incredible innate ability to heal and restore itself. Fasting, particularly a 3- 5 day water fast, can be a powerful tool to harness this inherent wisdom.

The Master Cleanse Recipe

I use the The Master Cleanse, also known as the Lemonade Diet, during the 3-5 day fasting period. I was first introduced to this cleanse from my mother. The Master cleanse is a liquid-based cleanse that involves consuming only a specific beverage for a set period. The core of the cleanse is a "lemonade" made with the following ingredients:

Master Cleanse Lemonade Recipe

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice

  • 2 tablespoons organic maple syrup (Grade B is preferred)

  • 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 8 ounces purified or spring water

Instructions:

  1. Squeeze the lemon or lime juice into a glass.

  2. Add the maple syrup and cayenne pepper.

  3. Fill the glass with water and stir well.

This mixture is consumed multiple times throughout the day during the cleanse.

Note: The Master Cleanse also typically includes a morning salt water flush and laxative tea in the evening. However, these elements are often debated for their necessity and potential risks.

Journal about your experience, this is not easy to do but the benefits FAR out way the displinse needed. Make sure to schedule this into your routine once a year of not every six months.
